Hi I'm Kathy Sturr, the artist and master gardener behind The Violet Fern Art Studio & Garden who has a passion for waterCOLOR, wildlife/habitat gardening, plant-based (Vegan) food, and all things "earthy."
My artwork is a fusion of texture and color envisioned in nature — a tangle of leaves, bark of a tree, birds of a feather, scales of insect, flesh of fruit or vegetable — and in objects with history — old fishing lures, rusty boats, worn copper pots. I bring these textures and colors to the surface for the viewer to experience. My artwork connects you to nature and to well worn objects that perhaps spark a lifetime memory.
I work and create from a little but efficient office/studio (pictured top and middle right), gallery (pictured bottom right) and from my outside garden office/canvas (view garden here).
Having been employed as a graphic designer for nearly 20 years in a past life, I know a few things about Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. Using this software knowledge in conjunction with watercolor, I have published two children's books in collaboration with a local author. And if you're into the new coloring prozac, please enjoy my monthly hand drawn coloring pages! I know deadlines, detail and dedication. I knows soil, native and traditional perennials, and vegetables. I know nooch, garbanzo beans, and tempeh.
It's easy to connect! Use the short form option if you have a project to pitch, would like to commission a painting, or schedule an appointment or garden tour:
